After three years of teaching hundreds of kids about history in Cottage Grove, the Singing Creek Educational Center is looking for a new home. We are grateful to the Prospectors Club for allowing us to use the historic Snapp House for the past 3.5 years. The club has decided to terminate our use of the building as an educational center and return it to being a museum.
The staff and board of Singing Creek are very proud of being able to provide high quality and fun educational experiences. We have helped many children learn to appreciate Oregon history. We are especially proud of our programs about Native Americans and our work with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. In addition to our programs about Lewis and Clark and early pioneer life we have also created educational programs for local Guatemalan immigrant children. One regret is that we were given little notice to move everything, and denied the ability to use the house for two children’s events we had already planned for that week.
We are proud of our active role in caring for the Snapp house for the past 3.5 years. It’s hard to move supplies and memories – but we are not moving away from Cottage Grove! We will continue to provide the same fun, educational programs for all kids in South Lane County.
