Calling all homeschoolers: join us for a fun and imaginitive field trip about the Corp of Discovery and their journey to the Pacific Northwest!
For ages 6 – 11, this field trip features three stations in the museum with an instructor who will teach you about history. You will get your own little paper journal for taking notes and making drawings. Your group will rotate stations every thirty minutes.
Overview all together: 10 minutes
Learn the basics of who sent them, who went with them, why they went and more.
Station one: William Clark
Learn about map making, investigate a map and use a compass. Draw your own “compass rose” and learn about trade items brought along on the journey for meetings with Native Peoples.
Station two: Merriweather Lewis
Learn about plant and animal species collected on the journey. How were these preserved? What animals did they name after themselves? How did they conduct science? Draw and write with a feather quill and ink in your journal.
Station three: Native Americans
What Native American tribes did they encounter along the way? Learn about some encounters that were tense and others that went smoothly. How did Sacajawea help the men on the journey? Learn about Native culture in Oregon at that time and about trade routes.
Your field trip will last about 1.75 hours.
Cost is $7 per child, adults are free.
There is no admission charge to get into the musuem.
This field trip is pre-registration only and we can only take up to 30 children.
