Grandparent’s Pioneer Tea at the SMJ House was lovely!
With thirty guests and lovely weather, the Grandparent’s tea on Sunday, September 8th was a great success. We served two flights of teas (courtesy of Mountain Rose Herbs) and tiny treats, including fruit, cucumber sandwiches, cookies, chocolates and scones.
The second Sunday in September is National Grandparent’s Day, and we always like to make it special by remembering loved ones and honoring multi-generational relationships. Elders give us so much, and we are happy to give them a celebration.
Guests wrote the names of their beloved grandparents and grandfriends on paper hearts that were clipped up to ribbons in each room. The effect was lovely, and helped us remember those who couldn’t be there in person.
Janet Naylor played Celtic harp music during the event, evoking a happy feeling for all as they enjoyed the company of their loved ones. Some tables had children present, while others were seniors who had brought a friend with them.
The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House in Eugene was a wonderful location for this event. The house museum offered a gracious setting and atmosphere for the tea. Guests took a self-guided tour of the house during or after the tea, to explore all three floors, including the miniature replica of the house in the attic!
Volunteers included SCEC board members Karen & Steve Williamson and long-time teen volunteer Emma Russell, as well as Sharla from the SMJ house volunteer pool. Our Executive Director Karen Rainsong also volunteered many hours for this event. We are so grateful for their hard work and dedication so we could offer this beautiful event!
A big thank you to our sponsors:
Mountain Rose Herbs, Market of Choice, Sundance Natural Foods, and the SMJ House.
